Yes, I have another good boy to write about! A drug dog recently discovered over $980,000 worth of cocaine hidden in a pickup truck at the Texas border. The 21-year-old American driver faces time behind bars.

Drug dog sniffs out over $980k worth of cocaine hidden in a truck

It’s time to celebrate another hard-working K-9 officer for being the goodest boy. The dog was working a routine shift at the Hidalgo International Bridge when he smelled cocaine.

He barked, alerting officers to a 2002 Ford Ranger. It was then selected for a secondary inspection. After non-intrusive inspections with a non-intrusive inspection system (vehicle x-rays?), a K-9 screening, and a physical inspection, officers found 28 packages of cocaine.

United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers shared that 74 lbs of cocaine were seized from the Ford Ranger. This amount of cocaine is worth about $989,049.

According to News 4 San Antonio, the truck was being driven by a 21-year-old American male. He was attempting to bring the drugs into Texas from Mexico.

CBP officers seized the narcotics and the truck. Then special agents from Homeland Security Investigations arrested the driver and launched a criminal investigation.

I feel like the K-9 officer should be rewarded with a ride in the Ranger. However,  it’s being used as evidence. The dog could disrupt potential clues inside the vehicle.

Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo Port of Entry shared that the fortinline officers and agriculture specialists remain vigilant during investigations.

Their attention to detail and experience led to a massive narcotics seizure. This reinforces the continued commitment to their border security mission.
