It’s certainly not what you would expect from a heart-warming Disney film. One Florida park worker decided the best way to celebrate the end of a day was to hit the road. After having a few too many. What’s wilder, she crashed her car into the Tampa Bay, self-rescued, and swam away as if she were playing Grand Theft Auto. What a night.

A Disney ‘cast member’ learned that maybe the happiest place in the world isn’t the bay. In her car. While drunk.

A 27-year-old Walt Disney World cast member is in some serious hot water with the police after plunging her car into the Tampa Bay near St. Petersburg. Authorities say the driver sped through an intersection on Central Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. The timing is enough to raise the average police officer’s eyebrow. But it got worse than her speeding through the sleepy intersection. Much worse.

The driver missed the turn, instead ramping her car off of dry land and into the Tampa Bay. Now, there’s a lot of harbor space right next to Central Avenue. But that doesn’t mean it’s not enough water to swallow up a car, truck, or SUV. And so it did. The Disney worker’s car slipped beneath the surface of the water, obscured by the darkness of the early morning.

Miraculously, the good-timer pulled herself from the sinking car and into the water. But rather than calling to the shore for help, she swam away. Glossing past a “Little Mermaid” joke, it seems that looking for logic in a drunken place isn’t rational. Fortunately, the driver-turned-swimmer was good enough in the water to survive her crash, even in her inebriated state.

A stunned bystander reported the crash from dry land near Bayshore Drive, a left turn off of Central Avenue. That means just after she launched her car into the water, police were already on the way. As such, they were able to catch up with the drunken Disney cast member when she made it shore.

According to the arrest documentation, the 27-year-old was stumbling, smelled like her wild night, and had bloodshot eyes, all typical indications of intoxication. Police arrested her for a DUI. However, sinking your car in the bay will almost certainly come with its own repercussions.
