If Stellantis wanted the Jeep Wrangler 4xe to quietly go out to pasture, then things aren’t going as planned. This hybrid SUV has been slapped with a class-action lawsuit. Plaintiffs claim that a recall fix related to battery fires failed, leaving their vehicles in danger.

Jeep Wrangler 4xe battery fire lawsuit

All rise! The court is about to be in session for the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. It’s facing a lawsuit as production comes to an end. The Wrangler 4xe has received multiple recalls dating back to 2022 relating to potential fire risks.

According to CarComplaints, the 4xe models manufactured by Samsung have an internal defect, causing them to overheat and catch on fire. The lithium-ion battery fire dangerously spreads very quickly.

Also, the plaintiffs complain that Stellantis advised them not to charge their batteries. This leaves them without the ability to use electric power, forcing them to rely on gas only. Drivers feel as if they paid more for a fuel-saving service they couldn’t safely access.

Additionally, they are instructed to park away from structures until the recall process is complete. However, the plaintiffs argue that there is no solid repair method available. Those who received repairs were still included in additional recalls for 2022-2026 models.

Replacing the batteries with the same type of units still left drivers at risk of vehicle fires. Plus, the lawsuit alleged that Stellantis delayed recalling 2024 models despite being aware of the dangerous defect.

The problem has been linked to 36 SUV fires and three injuries. Also, every 4xe Jeep, including Grand Cherokee models have been discontinued due to unresolved fire issues and weakening demand. A stop-sale was issued before the PHEV SUVs were discontinued.
