Sam Zahar owns a luxurious rental car company in Southfield, Michigan. He buys incredibly expensive cars, like a Bentley Bentayga, Cadillac Escalade S500, and Mercedes G-Wagon G63 T Limited, and rents them out to customers. There’s even a Lamborghini URUS Performance Edition for those who like speed.

His favorite car of the fleet, however, is a $500,000 Rolls Royce Cullinan SUV. It’s white with an orange interior. It’s his most expensive car to rent at $1,750 per day. Customers typically use it for special events like weddings, proms, or music videos.

So, imagine his surprise when he saw his prized rental Rolls going viral while scrolling through social media.

“This is my car,” he told FOX 2, recalling seeing it on the Metro Detroit News channels. The Rolls Royce was being moved from the back of a tow truck. “I got a screenshot and I tried to [zoom in], that’s my car.”

The police arrived shortly afterward, asking him where he’d been the night before. The man who rented the Cullinan from him used the SUV to rob several banks in the downtown Detroit area.

“There were about four detectives at my house thinking I stole the bank because the car is under my name,” he said.

The thieves spent money on the Rolls Royce to make chump change

Police told Zahar that the driver abandoned the car after officers gave chase. The man is now at large, but officers were able to recover the SUV. It sustained around $15,000 in damages.

“I think it was my favorite car, the Rolls Royce Cullinan,” he said. “This is our main car in the company. I really wish he took something else.”

After the car was repaired, the company’s website shows the car can be rented again. So, if you’re in Michigan and want to drive a car that was operated by a bank robber, you absolutely can.
