Jeremy Smith was already having a rough day when the police pulled him over. The man’s 1999 Honda Civic had no windshield, no front bumper, and the airbags were deployed. Police impounded the 250,000-mile car immediately, leaving the mechanic with no way to get to work. But that rough day turned into something beautiful.

Some might be tempted to make a “Florida man” joke about Smith driving the recently totaled Civic. But not Joshua Clinton, managing partner at Cape Coral Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram. His response: “We’ve all been through some kind of struggle. I said, I think there’s something we can do to help him.”

He contacted Smith and offered to sell him a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. You may ask, how can a driver struggling to pay for a replacement windshield buy a Cherokee? Clinton offered him the car for just $1.

Smith accepts his new Jeep, and shares a lesson

Clinton hopes the mechanic will be able to keep the Cherokee on the road for a long time. He says maybe Smith will come work for Cape Coral Chrysler someday.

Smith was overwhelmed by the generosity and shared a lesson with everyone. “Try not to, you know, be down in dumps or stay down because someday it will get better. And you never know what can happen.”
