Surprisingly, the deadliest truck in America isn’t the Ford F-150
It seems like the truck with the highest amount of sales in America would be the deadliest. However, the deadliest truck isn’t the popular Ford F-150. Instead, a popular rival wears the crown.
What is the deadliest truck in America?
According to Horwitz Law, the deadliest truck in America is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The Silverado has been involved in more fatal accidents despite not selling as well as the Ford F-150.
I expected the Ford F-150 to be the deadliest model because it has a higher sales. It’s been the most popular vehicle for decades, so it has more drivers.
While the Chevy Silverado 1500 was involved in 1,774 fatal accidents, the F-150 was only involved in 1,539 fatalities. The Ram 1500 sits at the bottom of the list with only 560 fatal accidents.
The Silverado is the deadliest vehicle in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
But has it recently gotten safer? According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), the Silverado passes initial tests for roadway safety.
However, it didn’t pass with flying colors and didn’t earn any Top Safety Pick designations. It has marginal, poor, and acceptable ratings for crashworthiness scores, crash avoidance and mitigation systems, seat belts, and child restraints.

Each of the available headlights including LED projectors, LED reflectors, and halogen reflectors received a poor rating. They have excessive glare and inadequate visibility.
The child seat anchors received a poor rating because the tether anchors are hard to find, other hardware could be confused for an anchor, and they’re located too deep in the seats.
During the front crash prevention tests for pedestrians, the Chevy Silverado 1500 failed to avoid collisions. This test was with children crossing the street.
But during the 12 mph test, impact speed was reduced by four mph. During the 25 mpg test, impact speed was reduced by 11 mph.
The Silverado seems like it has some safety issues to correct.
