Tesla is heading back to court. This time, it’s a class action lawsuit alleging that Cybertruck owners didn’t receive off-road, roof-mounted light bars. It might sound silly, but owners claim they spent a lot of money on the option and expected Tesla to make good on the promise.

A class-action lawsuit names Tesla for missing Cybertruck off-road light bars, despite owners paying for them

Eric Schwartz ordered a top-trim Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast from the electric automaker at the end of 2023. He optioned his “Foundation Series” with an off-road light bar, hoping to add more illumination to the standard setup. But when he took delivery of the electric truck, the light bar was nowhere to be found.

Car Complaints reports that Schwartz reached out to Tesla repeatedly, and the automaker refused to supply the light bar. It was this action that led to a class action lawsuit, sending Tesla to legal deliberations yet again.

According to the lawsuit, “All persons within California who purchased a vehicle from Defendant that was advertised to include an off-road lightbar, but who did not receive such off-road lightbar, within the four years prior to the date of filing the Complaint in this action to the date of class certification in this action.”

That said, this isn’t the first time that the Cybertruck failed to deliver. When the hulking EV pickup truck failed to meet previously established single-charge range estimates, Tesla proposed a bed-mounted range extender. However, the range extender never came to fruition, and Tesla refunded the deposits.

Buyers say they wouldn’t have bought the Tesla trucks

The lawsuit alleges that owners felt lied to with the broken promise of the light bars. Specifically, the owners assert that they “would not have purchased the trucks if they [had] known Tesla was using false advertising regarding the off-road light bars.”

“Plaintiff suffered an ‘injury in fact’ because Plaintiff’s money was taken by Defendant for products that were never provided to him,” the lawsuit added. “[The] Plaintiff and Class Members were undoubtedly injured as a result of Defendant’s false representations that are at issue in this litigation.”

So, what does that mean? In short, the plaintiff and the lawsuit participants want restitution for the missing part and alleged misrepresentation of the product.
