Drunk Montana Man Crashes Truck in River and Reports it Stolen
Sometimes it can be difficult to take responsibility for your own mistakes. But that often makes things worse. A Montana man told police officers that his truck was stolen. However, he actually drunkenly crashed it in a river.
Drunk Montana man claims truck was stolen
On December 3, Polson Police, firefighters, and the Lake County Search and Rescue team got reports of a submerged vehicle in the River near 7th Avenue West. They used an underwater drone to determine that it was unoccupied and noticed that it seemed familiar.
Police officers decided to investigate the pickup truck that was submerged in the Flathead river. Upon pulling the 2004 white GMC Sierra to land, they noticed it was linked to a stolen vehicle report.
A man named Kobe Schamp claims his pickup was taken from the South Shore Lounge parking lot. However, information discovered once the Sierra was on dry land contradicted the original stolen vehicle report.
According to NBC Montana, Schamp now faces charges for Driving Under the Influence (DUI), Reckless Driving, Failure to Give Notice of an Accident, and False Reports to Law Enforcement.
Plus, the truck’s location in the water and path of travel caused a negative environmental impact. Polson Police Chief George Simpson shares that they recognize lane as a critical resource and of cultural importance to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.
A strong emphasis provides environmental stewardship and respecting the perspectives of the Indigenous people who remain connected to the land.
Luckily, no injuries occurred due to the accident. However, I wonder how Schamp managed to escape and avoid freezing.
