Corvette ZR1X Sets Record for America’s Quickest Production Car With Sub 2 Second 0-60
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X is officially America’s quickest production car that is currently available. It also set a new record as the fastest quarter-mile production car costing less than $1 million.
The new speed records were set on a prepped surface at US 131 Motorsports Park in Michigan. The Corvette ZR1X completed the quarter-mile in 8.675 seconds at 159 mph on pump gas, using standard-equipment tires and a production 50-state street-legal engine calibration.
On that same run, the ZR1X cranked out a 0-60 mph time of 1.68 seconds. It also hit 60 mph in less than 100 feet, generating a peak of 1.75G of acceleration force.
Those times knocked the Lucid Air Sapphire, with its 1.89-second 0-60 time and 8.95-second quarter-mile time, out of the top spot.
“When we made the revolutionary shift to a mid-engine platform, this is the type of performance we knew was possible,” said General Motors President Mark Reuss.
How was the Corvette ZR1X able to go so fast?
Fortunately, multiple drag strips around the world don’t outlaw the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X. That’s because it’s a hybrid that achieved its incredible speed using a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter LT7 V8 engine and an electric motor on the front axle, producing a combined 1,250 horsepower.
The supercar’s record run was no fluke either. Chevy reports that the vehicle used for testing completed multiple back-to-back quarter-mile runs all under 8.8 seconds.
“There are many different parts and subsystems on this car, with teams across the company responsible for them,” said Corvette development engineer and test driver Stefan Frick. “We were all motivated by the mission to break into the eights – this is a powerful example of the in-house skill at GM, and the level of performance we developed into this car.”
How does the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X compare in speed to other supercars?
While the ZR1X set new American production car speed records, it still isn’t the fastest in the world. This is something Chevrolet readily admits, as the company provided the chart below.

What Chevy failed to mention is that the Yangwang U9 Xtreme, a Chinese EV hypercar with almost 3,000 horsepower, recently set the record for the fastest production car ever at 308.4 mph.
They also ignored that the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, which could go from 0-60 mph in 1.66 seconds, according to Dodge. Yes, the Demon 170 isn’t in production anymore, but technically, since it set the record when it was, it still holds the record.
