Usually, Taco Bell is the top choice after a night of drinking. However, one drunk North Carolina police officer wanted McDonald’s instead. However, he passed out behind the wheel, stalling his car in the middle of the drive-thru. He never got his meal.

Drunk North Carolina police officer passes out in car during drive-thru

Unfortunately, there’s no data linking specific fast-food restaurants to DWIs. But I’d have to guess that McDonald’s and Taco Bell are popular late-night options for drunk drivers

An off-duty police officer in North Carolina was intoxicated and hungry on his way home. So, like many irresponsible impaired drivers, he wanted a snack. Upon entering the McDonald’s drive-thru in his personal vehicle, he couldn’t keep his eyes open any longer.

As the officer fell asleep, his car stalled in the drive-thru lane. This prompted people to alert Belmont police officers about an unresponsive driver blocking traffic around 12:30 AM.

When they arrived on scene, they found Officer James Garlanda Reagan asleep in the driver’s seat. According to My Fox 8, Reagan has been with the department since 2014.

A standard field investigation determined that he was driving his car under the influence. He was arrested and charged with DWI.

Reagan has been placed on administrative leave as officers conduct a criminal investigation and an internal department review. Police Chief, Boyce Falls, shared that officers are expected to conduct themselves to a high standard on and off duty. When someone falls short of that, they will be held accountable.

Also, you can ask Uber drivers to stop at a fast food place if you’re hungry after drinking. It’s much smarter and safer than driving drunk.
