‘Any Chrysler product. Or Dodge.’ Mechanics say these popular vehicles won’t make it 100,000 miles
Cars are a lot like politics. In at least one way, that is. What way? Everyone has an opinion about them. Some are based on personal preference, others on professional experience, like these mechanics calling out the cars they say won’t make it to 100,000 miles. From Chrysler and Dodge vehicles to super popular Hyundai sedans, nearly nothing seems safe.
These Honda mechanics have some strong opinions about the cars that won’t make it to six-figure mileages
“Hey Anthony, what car wouldn’t make it to 100,000 miles?” a TikTok user asked his friend and one of the mechanics at Brandon Honda. It was a question he’d end up asking just about everyone in the service center.
“I would stay away from Mercedes. I don’t like working on them,” Anthony responded.
Brian, another professional at the shop, gave a completely different answer. “Hyundai Sonata,” he answered matter-of-factly.
But Brian wasn’t the only tech throwing shade at Hyundai. Abel responded with a broader, “Hyundai,” skipping a model name altogether.
Brian was joined by Sean, who quickly added the Ford Explorer to the list. Joel, yet another mechanic at the service center, answered with perhaps the most inflammatory response. “Any Chrysler product. Or Dodge in general.”
Troy answered with the popular, albeit now discontinued, Dodge Challenger. Finally, the interviewer reached his last subject. “Hey Antoinette, which car probably wouldn’t make it to 100,000 miles?” Antoinette responded with a usual suspect in the conversation about unreliable rides: Jaguar.
No Hondas on the list, but Honda patches on the shoulder
It should be noted that nearly every tech in the video is wearing a Honda uniform shirt. It’s not because they’re expressly Honda super fans, though. The mechanics and techs work at Brandon Honda in Tampa, Florida.
Granted, Honda does have a reputation for reliability and longevity compared to other popular automakers. But it does also explain why none of the popular models in the mix were sporting a Honda badge.
Viewers had some strong opinions of their own
Needless to say, the viewers on TikTok had some personal examples to push back against the mechanics. “Not me with both my Mercedes over 250,000 miles each,” one TikTok user commented.
Several viewers responded by saying Brian’s quick “Hyundai Sonata” comment was misplaced. “I’ve got bad news for one of you. My Sonata just made it to 200,000 miles and [is] still going strong.”
Then you reached some of the more practical commentary. “The correct answer is any one car that you do not take care of. There, I fixed it for you all,” one viewer responded.
Another commenter replied to the video with “A lot depends on how well it’s maintained.” Too true. The use of 100,000 miles as the benchmark is something of a cheeky joke. Except for defective or crash-compromised cars, most modern vehicles are more than capable of reaching 100,000 miles with regular maintenance.
