“Useless truck feature” This Chevy Silverado hack is misunderstood
It’s true, people don’t read the owner’s manual anymore. As a result, trucks hold many helpful Chevrolet models that have secrets that you wish you knew. But one Chevy Silverado hack is being wildly misunderstood as it goes viral.
This Chevy Silverado hack is misunderstood
A TikTok user called @bencs1992 could be trolling its viewers with a video about a Chevy Silverado 1500 and its second ignition switch. The user asks if they’re the only one who didn’t know that these trucks have a second ignition switch.
In the video, the key is turned in the ignition key hole near the rear license plate. Then you hear the engine fire up as they pan to the exhaust pipe.
Some commenters say the engine sounds were added later, and others say someone timed the start-up from the driver’s seat.
Others simply shared that the engine sounded like the Duramax diesel, which is cool but irrelevant. People also claimed that this makes trucks easier to steal.
The ones claiming that the video is fake are correct! Here’s the truth. The keyhole in the rear of Silverado trucks actually provides access to the spare tire.
You insert the key into the lock to remove a plug that blocks the tire. Then you can use the assembly rods that are stored under the back seat to lower the spare tire down. This method prevents thieves from stealing your spare.
However, if this was a way to start a truck, I wouldn’t call it useless like the video creator did. It would allow you access lights in the bed or accessory power from the rear while hitching up a trailer.
