Cat Tumbles Out Of Rv And Walks 155 Miles Home
If you’re a pet owner, you know the nightmare: You’re traveling with your cat, and he escapes. Before you can do anything, he’s disappeared. And you’re over a hundred miles from home. Well, this nightmare became reality for one French couple. They weren’t only 150 miles from home, but they were RVing in another country: Spain.
In August 2025, Filou slipped out the RV window at a Catalonia gas station. At first, Patrick and Evelyne Sire searched for him. The campers contacted the Spanish police. Finally, they posted notices with local animal associations. They had to return home, and as the days turned to weeks and the weeks turned into months, they gave up hope.
Then, on January 9th, they got a call that some would call miraculous. A woman had found the recognizable black and white cat. He was weak, exhausted, and a skeleton of his former self. But his microchip confirmed her identity. And he was alive.
Even more miraculous? Filou was found less than half a mile from the couple’s home. In France.
The cat managed to hike 150 miles, crossing mountain ranges and wide rivers. And navigate an international border crossing.
The Good Samaritan who found Filou said she’d been feeding the “stray” since December before finally catching him to have a vet read his microchip. How is this even possible? Vox News shares that some scientists have speculated that Filou used the Earth’s magnetic field, or even scents, to migrate. But Patrick Sire summed it up: “We’ll never know.”
