Thieves Drive Stolen Car Through Marijuana Dispensary Window At Exactly 4:20 A.M.
Nebraska thieves attempted a “smash and grab” crime, driving a stolen car through the door of a dispensary to rob the store. They may have thought they were being clever, hitting the store at exactly 4:20 a.m. But the authorities aren’t laughing.
Nebraska allows medical marijuana dispensaries. One of the state’s most popular dispensary chains is “Grateful Green.” At exactly 4:20 a.m., the “glass break” alarm at the dispensary on 56th Street and Shady Creek Drive called the police.
The Nebraska dispensary smash and grab
LPD arrived to find the glass doors smashed, the security gate opened. Display cases were also opened, with items scattered around the shop.
The number “420” has long been associated with marijuana. The Oxford English Dictionary suspects the slang dates back to a 4:20 p.m. smoke break tradition students at San Rafael High School in California had in 1971. For my younger readers: It’s like the old hippy version of “six-seven.”
The security cameras showed a white sedan ramming through the building, then racing away. Later in the day, police recovered the sedan—which had been reported stolen. At 10:30 that night, the police arrested the burglars. The suspects are 18 and 15, and have been charged with “Unlawful Taking more than $5,000.” Maybe when they’re older, they can get a medical card for whiplash from the crash.
