Car theft impacts millions of vehicle owners each year. Luckily, police departments have ways of recovering many vehicles, but it’s still a significant problem for people. However, some thieves are bold enough to go after car showrooms. This happened recently in Michigan, and some of the suspects are still at large after stealing over $250,000 worth of what many call some of the best cars to buy. Police caught some of the criminals with traffic stops.

Car theft from showrooms is on the rise

Car theft has been a problem for as long as there have been vehicles to steal. However, it has become much more widespread and even impacts car showrooms. According to Fox 17 West Michigan, this happened to one local car dealership owner on December 9th. The report says that the owner watched on surveillance as the thieves stole over $250k worth of what many would call some of the best cars to buy.

The dealership that fell victim to car theft is Comodo Motors in Caledonia Township. This is said to have happened at around 2 a.m. Naturally, he called the police as he watched it unfold on the live surveillance footage. The owner, Jordan Baker, had this to say: “They broke out this glass, and then somebody was working the door with a tool, and they slid the pin over.”

The police arrived on the scene as the car theft perpetrators were attempting to leave the dealership. Apparently, the police officers saw multiple vehicles “peeling out of the parking lot.” They included a Dodge Challenger, a Corvette, a Ram truck, and a white Jeep. Someone from the police department compared the situation to a scene from The Fast and the Furious.

The police recovered the stolen cars

Naturally, the police went after the car theft suspects and tried to force traffic stops. They did this successfully on one of the vehicles by using stop sticks to flatten the tires. However, that driver exited the car and got into the stolen white Jeep, and they took off. The Jeep and other stolen cars were said to have reached 100 mpg during the pursuit.

The latest is that the thieves abandoned the Corvette after crashing it into a median. Now, all of the vehicles have been found, but they were damaged in the pursuit. The dealership owner had this to say, “That’s what’s left for us business owners is to clean up all the scraps. Now, I have diminished value on our expensive cars. I mean, this is $250,000 in vehicles that they stole that are now going to be worth less because they’re stolen recovery.”

The police made one arrest but are looking for the other suspects. The Kent County Sheriff is conducting the investigation and is asking for tips.
