This bride-to-be wasn’t going to let anything get in the way of her wedding weekend—including auto theft. So when an unsuspecting criminal nabbed her fiancé’s car with her dress packed inside, she took matters into her own hands.

The Pallis-Tully wedding was almost interrupted by a car thief

Julia Pallis and Collin Tully had their dream wedding planned. They were getting married on a fall Saturday in Vermont. Thursday morning, they were preparing to leave Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood. Tully piled everything they would need into his running car.

Pallis says, “It was packed to the brim—boxes, drinks, signs, decorations.” The Boston firefighter and groom-to-be even packed her wedding gown. Then he returned inside one last time to tell her it was time to go.

He remembers he turned his back for “a minute and a half, tops.” But he returned “to not having a car there anymore.”

According to Tully, his fiancée rolled with the punches. And she didn’t waste time blaming her soon-to-be husband. “I’m sure, maybe inside, she was a little angry, but she was a rock star.”

Pallis—an MIT employee—remembers focusing on the logistics. “I was thinking of all the things that were in the car and I was like, ‘Oh, my wallet. I should turn off my cards.’ And then I thought, ‘Oh, my laptop is in there. Such a bummer.’ And then I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, I can track my laptop.’”

When Pallis realized she might be able to recover her fiancé’s car, she didn’t hesitate. “She acted quickly and got in her personal vehicle and tracked the car.” That’s right—she chased down her fiancé’s stolen car.

‘Thanking all of our lucky stars’

She had the police on the phone the whole time. “She was giving them live reports.” Luckily, Pallis didn’t have to follow for long. “Until the Bridgewater police cruisers could eventually catch up to her.”

Pallis was quick to say she wasn’t the “MVP” of the story. “Honestly, that officer who was doing the detail, we owe her our whole wedding.”

The officer in question pulled over the stolen car and was able to recover everything. Including the dress. You can see the newlyweds’ interviews in the video below:
