‘Some Accidents Are Very Hard to Explain’ Car Hanging Upside Down From Street Light Pole Goes Viral on TikTok
A TikTok post showing a car accident, reportedly in South Africa, has now been viewed over 3 million times. Why? Because the car involved in the accident was hanging upside down from a street light pole.
Details about the bizarre crash are scarce, but however it happened, the damage to the four-door sedan was significant. The car was wedged between the streetlight and a concrete wall, about 8 to 10 feet above the ground. The concrete wall also appears to have sustained some serious damage. Presumably, the car hit the wall and then somehow used it as a makeshift ramp, leaving the car dangling precariously in the air.
Footage of the car accident, shared on TikTok by user @alpha__jay10, shows the wreckage from all sides. Emergency personnel, with lights flashing, also appeared at the scene.
Workers were able to unwedge the car from between the light pole and the concrete wall. As the car was lowered to the ground, the pole seemed to almost pierce the trunk area of the vehicle.
After flipping the vehicle upright, a tow truck can be seen hauling it away. The car’s front wheels were destroyed, but the rear wheels were still intact, so a rollaway tow truck wasn’t needed.
Viewers on TikTok had many questions and comments about the bizarre car crash
“How do you even explain this to insurance?” one of the over 4,200 comments read.
“I don’t think you can park there,” another viewer wrote, echoing an untold number of similar comments.
“I thought my phone was upside down,” someone else commented.
“2026 looks like it’s going to be long and very stressful,” another viewer joked.
Another popular theme in the comments was, “How is this even possible?”
“I am still trying to figure this out because you can’t even really speed [on] that road,” someone, who obviously knows the area, wondered.
Sadly, so far, we have no answers.
