A New Mexico car dealer goes viral for revealing his secrets when buying used cars at a Manheim auto auction.

Buying cars is never an easy process. Endless time can be dedicated to researching, test driving, and evaluating cars. Buying a car at an auction is a whole another game.

However, buying a used car at a Manheim auto auction is a different experience. Manheim will have used cars that have been repossessed and oftentimes a great deal can be landed. During bidding, car buyers have a quick window to place bids on certain cars and inspection needs to be done prior to auction.

Once the gavel is slammed, there’s no turning back.

In a TikTok that’s generated over 25,300 views as of this writing, Robb shares what he does to ensure he’s picking the best possible car to buy at a Manheim auto auction.

Oh He’s Over There Massaging Cars At The Manheim Auto Auction

In the TikTok, Robb (@robbthecarguy) showcases what he looks out for when attending a Manhiem auto auction.

Robb is diligent during his inspections and will do unconventional things to determine if the vehicle is a good one.

“Getting to auction early has its downsides. It’s dark and wet. You can’t really see what it looks like wet and in the dark.” Robb begins.

With this problem in mind, Robb does offer a solution that may turn a few heads.

“So I kinda just gotta rub it all. I get wet and soaked you know,” Robb reveals.

Robb is willingly to get wet and soaked to ensure he knows exactly what he is buying. He knows this move is a little diabolical, but it’s useful information for him.

“People are looking at me crazy like I’m massaging cars,” he shares.

By doing this, Robb is able to see if there are any bumps, scratches, or any damage to the body of the car.

What Other Secrets Did He Share When Buying At Manheim Auto Auction?

While this first move to massage cars may be unconventional, Robb continues to share his secrets.

Robb mentions how he was looking at a Ford F-150 and a Nissan with a rattling engine which gave him concern.

“If one thing makes me uncomfortable, I’m out,” Robb shares.

This is because when buying a car at an auction, the purchase will be “as-is.” Buying a car “as-is” essentially means whatever issues are going on with it, you and the buyer will deal with it. So when buying used cars to flip over, it’s crucial to minimize repair expenses to turn a nice profit.

Additionally, Robb suggested walking to the back of the car to analyze the exhaust and dampness on the ground.

“Use your rearview mirror, hit the gas and see if it’s a lot. ” Robb shares.

He does mention time of day will be a factor into this test.

“That could just be because it’s morning time. If you hit the gas and it’s diabolical [curse], stay away,” Robb recommends.

He does the test himself and shows the car he’s examining passes this test.

What makes cars worth less or more at a Manheim auto auction?

Robb provides a few different examples of cars that have left their value due to modifications.

“Listen guys, when you have a regular car, Honda or Toyota, leave it stock,” Robb suggests.

He then shows a customized modified Honda with a lower lift and new wheels. Robb believes these modifications destroy the value.

“This car is worth less money with the lower package, new wheels and tires,” Robb shares.

Robb continues by saying these modifications depreciates the value of a regular car. The only time he believes the car appreciates, is when a lift kit on a truck is installed.

“Nobody wants kid driven cars. Kid driven cars come with headaches,” Robb explains.

Robb goes on to vent about how these modified cars are not easy to clean up.

“They put in their own speakers and then take the speakers out. Leaving the wires everywhere and they do it all half [curse],” he explains.

Overall, Robb suggests staying away from buying any cars with modifications at a Manheim auto auction.

Commenters chimed in

The comment section entertained and agreed with Robb’s suggestions when buying at a Maheim auto auction.

“No lies told,” one TikTok commenter added.

“I don’t like that noise, so I’m gonna walk away,” another recited.

“I woulda bought that Honda from you Robb,” a third added.
