On a random Wednesday, the staff at a local grocery store in Santa Rosa, California, faced an usual customer. The man had just crashed his Toyota Tacoma into the building. What’s more, he seemed badly injured…and under the influence. To add to the already messy scene, the drunk driver went inside not to report the accident, but to buy even more alcohol.

According to Santa Rosa police, the man, a resident of Santa Rosa, drove the Tacoma into the building with a BAC of .32.

For those wondering, that’s a really high blood alcohol content. A BAC of .04, or half most state driving limits, will make folks feel relaxed and sociable. At .08, you’re probably visibly impaired and reached a legal driving limit in most areas.

By the time you get between .30 and .40, though, the Cleveland Clinic says, “You’ll likely have alcohol poisoning, a potentially life-threatening condition, and experience loss of consciousness.”

And the cherry on top? He drove the Tacoma with a suspended license.

An ambulance took the 34-year-old drunk driver from Ray’s Food Center to the hospital where staff treated him for his “significant” injuries resulting from the crash. Authorities charged the man with driving under the influence, driving under the influence with a BAC over 0.08, driving while license suspended, and contempt of court.
