The Buick Envision Abandons China for America
The smallest Buick SUV is saying smell ya later to China. Alright, so the Buick Envision is probably being more polite than that as it packs its bags. General Motors is moving its production from China to America.
Buick Envision production moves from China to America
General Motors has decided that it’s the perfect time to move production of the Buick Envision from China to America. This decision comes as the relationship between the two countries becomes increasingly rocky.
Also, this helps the compact SUV skirt around added tariff costs to remain affordable. The Enista has been built in China since 2017. As it packs its bags, it may undergo a few significant changes.
The next generation is scheduled to launch soon, and it could get a new name. According to CNBC, it will be built at the General Motors’ Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas.
The Buick SUV will be built alongside the gas-powered Chevrolet Equinox, as production of the electric Chevy Bolt is expected to decrease. American drivers have shown a massive decline in interest in EVs.
A General Motors spokesperson shares that this decision further strengthens General Motors’ domestic manufacturing footprint. It supports United States jobs while building on $5.5 billion in new investments across American manufacturing sites.
Sales of the Buick Envision have surpassed 40,000 units for three consecutive years. It accounts for about a quarter of the brand’s sales.
The next-generation Envision is expected to become more similar to the Equinox and share a platform with the GMC Terrain. Also, production of the Chevy Blazer is moving to Spring Hill, Tennessee, as more trucks and SUVs will be built in Michigan.
