Workers at the Hollywood tow yard noticed a foul odor lingering around a Tesla in the impound lot. The vehicle sat in the lot for days, and the smell got so suspicious that the employees called the Los Angeles Police Department.

Someone unfamiliar with Teslas might have just opened the regular, rear trunk to confirm it was empty, then called it a day. But the LAPD made the smart move of opening the sedan’s front trunk—a small storage compartment under the vehicle’s hood, where ICE cars have an engine. What they found was shocking.

Human remains stuffed in a Tesla’s front trunk

The LAPD reports it found the dismembered and badly decomposed remains of a woman. The remains had been bagged and stuffed in the front trunk. Later, the black car was reported abandoned in Hollywood and towed to the impound lot.

When the police traced the Texas license plates, they found the Tesla registered to musician David Anthony Burke, who performs as D4vd. Police are treating the incident as a homicide but haven’t arrested anyone—including D4vd. The musician is in the middle of a world tour and recently performed in Chicago and Minneapolis. His spokesperson says, “D4vd has been informed about what’s happened. And, although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities.”

Police need help identify a murder victim

Obviously, there are countless possible explanations. Advanced security features make Teslas one of the least stolen vehicles in the U.S. But D4vd could have sold his car for cash and the new owners never re-registered it. He could have given it away as a gift. Let’s hope authorities can subpoena the footage from the car’s onboard cameras to help solve the case quickly.

Despite the investigation being inconclusive, Crocs and Hollister are pulling ads starring the singer. “We are aware of this developing story. With respect to the current situation, we have removed campaign content featuring D4vd while the investigation continues.”

The LAPD is seeking help identifying the victim. She stood about 5-foot-2 and had black hair. In addition, she had a “Shhhh” tattoo on her right index finger and was wearing a blue tube top, a yellow bracelet, and stud earrings. Police haven’t ruled out a connection with a second body found nearby in the trunk of a scorched Honda Civic.
