‘You’re a hypocrite’ Asking a police officer spicy questions reveals traffic secrets
You aren’t alone if you want to ask a police officer questions that seem a little too scary to ask. But one fearless woman is here to inquire about certain traffic habits and behavior on your behalf. The answers are honest and shocking.
Asking a police officer about driving while using devices
TikTok user @tannhand is here to ask a police officer questions that you might be too nervous to inquire about.
The first question is why cops are allowed to use their laptops while driving, and people can’t use TikTok or any devices. To my surprise, the officer admits that he doesn’t know. He shared that he wonders about this every time he uses his laptop in his squad car.
So, I did some research. The squad car serves as a mobile office. Devices such as cellphones and laptops provide crucial real-time updates to be better prepared for incidents. It improves safety and efficiency.
I reached out to tannhand to ask for clarification about what type of updates are important while responding to an incident.
Why are cops allowed to speed without their lights on?
The next question is about how police officers are seemingly allowed to speed without their lights and sirens on. It seems unfair as our host shares she’s received a speeding ticket for going five miles over the speed limit.
While the cop doesn’t believe her about that ticket, he explains that sometimes calls don’t require a response with lights and sirens. But they still need to hurry.
According to my research and WKYT, officers shouldn’t speed without their lights on. Emergency responders are only exempt from traffic regulations while responding to emergency calls, while in pursuit of a criminal, and while transporting patients to medical care facilities.
Is an officer liable for hitting a pedestrian without their lights on?
The police officer assumes he could be liable for hitting a pedestrian while their lights aren’t on. He assumed correctly. While speeding without the lights on, a police officer could be liable for negligence.
Meaning the actions could be considered reckless or as a failure to exercise due regard for others. Officers might properly warn drivers and pedestrians that they’re approaching.
Some comments claim that it’s legal for officers to speed and mention that officers turn their lights on just to run red lights. I assume that not all cops bend the rules for convenience.
However, I’m surprised by how honest this officer is about not knowing the answers to these important questions.
