I’m no car thief, but when you’re driving a stolen SUV, it’s probably best to blend in. One Arkansas man stole an SUV from a dealership and threw caution to the wind. Police officers quickly spotted his reckless driving.

If an Arkansas man would have obeyed traffic laws with his stolen SUV, then he might have gotten away. It’s too bad he was spotted driving the GMC SUV like he, in fact, stole it.

Jonesboro police officers were by the intersection of South Culberhouse and West Monroe when a black SUV sped by and ran through a stop sign.

The officers decided to follow the SUV and the driver continued to drive recklessly. They attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the SUV fled the scene, causing a police chase.

The suspect ran red lights and several stop signs. He even passed other drivers in designated no-passing zones at dangerous speeds. But the pursuit ended when the SUV got stuck in a field.

Officers ordered the driver to step out of the vehicle and put him in custody. The SUV belongs to the Central GMC dealership.

According to Jonesboro Right Now, the suspect claimed that he worked for Central GMC and had permission to drive the vehicle.

Detectives spoke with the manager of the dealership who claims that the man didn’t have permission to drive the SUV. He also wanted to pursue theft charges.

As a result, the suspect was charged with theft of a vehicle valued at over $25,000. He was also charged with reckless driving, fleeing a traffic stop, not having a driver’s license, and no liability insurance.

He has a $50,000 bond and will go to court on January 24, 2025. Maybe he panicked when he saw the cops due to not having a license, but if he had followed traffic laws things may have turned out differently.

Of course, the best way to avoid getting arrested for stealing cars is not to steal them!
