The 2022 Ford Maverick has been quite the exciting newcomer to the truck market. As a small truck, it offers the utility of a pickup but the driving comfort of a car. And for that reason, it has been attracting purchases from truck owners and non-truck owners alike. Perhaps one of the greatest things about Ford’s small truck is the fact that the Maverick does not take itself too seriously. And that fact is reflected in things like its paint color names, one of which is known as Area 51.

What does Area 51 mean for the Ford Maverick?

Area 51 is one of the paint code names for the new Maverick. It appears to be a mix of grey and blue, and frankly, it looks pretty attractive. While some may be attracted to other colors offered to the Maverick like Cyber Orange or Hot Pepper Red, Area 51 feels more refined. While still setting itself apart from other boring colors that are on the road.

Better yet, you can get the Area 51 paint treatment without having to pay extra. And that will certainly be a perk to some buyers of the Maverick.

Can you buy the 2022 Ford Maverick?

Unfortunately, customer orders for the 2022 Maverick are closed until August, when orders will be for the 2023 model. This is a reflection of just how popular Ford’s small truck has been. It comes standard with a hybrid engine and it rides on the same platform as the Ford Bronco Sport. So, despite being a compact pickup, the Maverick is still fairly capable.

Ford has even made a point to offer the FX4 Off-Road package to this vehicle. Granted, you will have to pay for the more powerful EcoBoost engine and all-wheel drive, the FX4 package offers legitimate off-road chops to this pickup. And that means the Maverick can handle some rugged terrain when needed.

When can you order the Maverick?

Orders for the Ford Maverick are set to open in August of 2022. And hopefully, Ford has figured out some of the supply issues by then. Currently, according to Ford Authority, some purchasers still feel in the dark about their small truck. And that is because Ford has not been the best at supplying updates. But, orders are currently being built as they have been placed, so hopefully, those who are still having to wait don’t have too long to go until they have a new Maverick in their driveway.

The best way to buy a Maverick right now is likely to visit a dealership. But, if you do find one, you should expect to pay a markup and you should plan to act quickly. The Ford Maverick is not a vehicle that sits on dealership lots for long. And that is because so many folks want to get behind the wheel of this compact pickup.

As news about the 2023 Maverick is released, updates will be provided to help you learn more about the new model. But because the Maverick will just be in its second model year, there likely won’t be that many major changes between the 2022 and 2023 versions.
