Are you one of the many shoppers in search of Ford’s new compact pickup truck? Buying one may be more difficult than it sounds. And that is because orders for the 2022 Ford Maverick are currently paused. Thanks to strong demand and supply chain issues, Ford has maxed out the production of the Maverick. And buyers are feeling the squeeze through dealer markups and inventory shortages. Orders for the 2023 Ford Maverick are not yet available.

Starting in January, Ford issued a pause for customer orders of the 2022 Ford Maverick. Some orders for 2022 may even be pushed into 2023. Which has buyers of this small truck feeling disappointed. Up until February, some shipments were still going out to dealerships, but that is no longer the case.

The Ford Maverick is currently one of the cheapest new trucks on the market. So, it makes sense that this vehicle has been highly popular. At first, only hybrid versions of this truck were unavailable. But according to autoevolution, the pause now applies to all trucks.

Don’t expect to show up at the dealership to buy a new Maverick, because there is likely a waitlist. While some shoppers may be lucky to find this compact pickup truck, searching for one at a dealership might be frustrating. But, that does not mean it’s totally impossible to get behind the wheel of this small truck. There are a range of options available on the secondary market. But some of these sell for well over MSRP. Ruining some of the potential value propositions that shoppers see from the 2022 Maverick.

When the 2023 Ford Maverick arrives, there will likely be some small changes made to it. Oftentimes, the first model year of a vehicle can have issues, and the Maverick is no different. In fact, the Maverick has already had a few recall alerts since its introduction.

Which Ford Maverick is best?

The Ford Maverick is available in three trim levels, and we feel the XLT is the best. This model comes outfitted with things like cruise control as well as the available turbocharged engine. When equipped with this powertrain, the Maverick can come equipped with all-wheel drive.

For those shopping for a small off-road truck, the Maverick XLT offers an available FX4 Off-Road package. This package lends legitimate capability to Ford’s new small truck. Which some buyers may seriously appreciate. Each trim level has a different price. The Maverick XL starts at $19,995, the XLT model has an MSRP of $22,360, and the top trim Maverick Lariat will start at $25,860.

Yes, if you are in the market for a compact truck, the 2022 Ford Maverick is ideal. It is both affordable and offers modern features. Which is something that truck drivers are likely to appreciate. It appears that one of the Maverick’s biggest problems is getting into the hands of buyers.

We can only hope that as the Maverick enters the 2023 model year, the supply issues are corrected and that Ford is not forced to put a pause on orders. But that isn’t the worst thing that could happen. So long as the Maverick remains popular, more brands may choose to enter the compact truck market, much like Hyundai has done with the Santa Cruz. And in our opinion, the more small trucks the better.
