The 2022 Ford Maverick has been making waves since its introduction. Not only is this a compact pickup truck, but it also has a starting price of right around $20,000. Because of this, buying a Maverick can feel more like buying a compact car than a truck, which has likely led to this vehicle’s serious popularity. Even though the Maverick is a cheap truck, it doesn’t necessarily feel all that cheap. And, it offers some legitimate utility despite its compact sizing.

The 2022 Ford Maverick is small but mighty

The Ford Maverick may be a small truck, in fact, it shares its platform with the Ford Escape and Ford Bronco Sport. Because of this, it utilizes unibody construction over the traditional body-on-frame build that you would expect from a truck. Another way that Ford’s small truck is shaking up the industry is its standard hybrid engine. Rather than using something like a V6, Ford has given this vehicle hybrid technology which helps with efficiency.

Perhaps where the Maverick falls short is the fact that the hybrid powertrain is not available with all-wheel drive. In order to get AWD, buyers must pay extra for the turbocharged engine which makes more power. Both of these options add to the cost of this cheap truck, but it can still be had for under $30,000, which is fairly impressive.

Why are Ford Mavericks so hard to get?

Unfortunately, demand has exceeded supply with the 2022 Maverick, because of this, buying one can be a difficult task. Ford has actually paused customer orders of the Maverick, meaning that you cannot go online to buy one. And for those who want this compact truck, that can be pretty frustrating. According to Ford Authority, some folks who have ordered this pickup have yet to receive any meaningful information on their purchase.

Not all hope is lost though, Ford has stated that it intends to reopen orders for the Maverick in August of 2022. It is worth noting that these orders will be for the 2023 model year, meaning you will not be buying a 2022 truck. If you can’t wait that long, it may be possible to find a new Maverick at a dealership, but you will likely face some dealership markups if you choose that route.

Is the 2022 Maverick a good truck?

Generally speaking, the Ford Maverick is a good truck, especially when you consider its price tag. When properly equipped, this vehicle can tow up to 4,000 pounds and the Maverick has an available off-road package. Known as the FX4 Off-Road Package, this option makes the Maverick a small off-road truck. Which is something that some buyers are likely to enjoy.

Additionally, the Maverick is available in three distinct trim levels. Allowing purchasers to get the right amount of truck for their specific needs. The biggest problem for the Maverick right now appears to be getting into the hands of those who want to buy one. Hopefully in the future, these supply issues are resolved.
