The 2026 Nissan Armada Has More Engine Power to Swing At Rivals
Plenty of drivers are sad as more V8 engines bite the dust. It’s getting harder to find a three-row SUV with robust V8 power. However, switching to a turbocharged V6 engine with the 2026 Nissan Armada isn’t a bad idea.
What engine comes with the 2026 Nissan Armada?
Let’s have a moment of silence for another V8 engine that is forever lost. Well, unless you find it among used SUVs. Anyways, the 5.6-liter V8 engine with 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque was scrapped in 2024.
Other three-row SUVs that have lost their V8 engines include the Ford Expedition and the Toyota Sequoia. But the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban soldier on.
The 2025 and 2026 Nissan Armada have a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter engine with 425 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.3 seconds.
With the base V8 engine in the Tahoe, you can hit 60 mph in about 7.7 seconds. Also, the 2024 Armada reaches 60 mph in about 6.7 seconds. However, the increase in power doesn’t come with more muscle for towing. The Armada can still only haul up to 8,500 lbs.
The 2024 model gets an EPA-estimated 14 mpg in the city and up to 19 mpg on the highway. These figures increase to 16 mpg in the city and up to 20 mpg on the highway.
The older engine earned a reliability rating of 79 out of 100 from J.D.Power. This is an average score. It only needed an 81 to be considered above average.
Because the new engine hasn’t been tested for years, it’s hard to gauge how well it will hold up. But the new generation doesn’t have any recalls yet. So far, the new engine is more athletic, efficient, and could be more reliable in the long run.
