The 2025 Volvo V90 has opened my eyes to the coveted wagon life. In the past, I didn’t understand the appeal of a wagon, but I think my life has been changed. It’s comfortable, spacious, well-balanced, and more. Only two features hold it back.

The 2025 Volvo V90 proves why wagons matter

I spent a week with the 2025 Volvo V90, getting to know it the right way, with road trips and errands! I traveled between Rock Hill, SC, and Asheville, NC to develop a sense of the wagon lifestyle.

During that time I only discovered two things that could use improvements.

  1. The Volvo V90 has slightly dated tech. While it’s easy to use, the 9.0-inch touchscreen seems a bit small and could benefit from a better resolution. The 360-degree camera view might have you squinting. Also, the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster feels basic.
  2. Rivals have more storage space for personal items. There is a noticeable lack of storage trays, shelves, and cubbies. However, cargo space is excellent overall.

Now here’s the good stuff!

If you judge a wagon by its looks, you wouldn’t expect it to be sporty or fun. But the 2025 Volvo V90 will prove you wrong behind the wheel. It has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 295 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.

The V90 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.4 seconds. That’s more power than you need for merging into traffic and passing others.

Plus, the V90 is well-balanced for cornering and sharp curves. It doesn’t have the heft that comes with taller, boxy SUVs. The brakes are confident and the steering is responsive for a good time.

It’s also pretty darn convenient with a 19-foot turning radius. Despite being pretty long, this wagon doesn’t handle like a large SUV. It’s easy to park and to whip in and out of tight city spots.

The Volvo V90 provides luxury comfort as well, with large, plush seats in each row. There are tons of adjustment controls and people in the second row can easily stretch out.

I have to say that the ventilated seats are refreshing and cool. They are some of the strongest cooling seats I’ve gotten to enjoy in months. Overall, the climate control system is able to keep up with southern heat without any drama.

The suspension soaks up large impacts and smooths out bumpy rides for a peaceful ride. However, while the interior is quiet, some rivals have better sound-dampening materials.

Also, the cabin is simple, luxurious, and upscale without an over the top design. Plus, quilted leather upholstery covers most surfaces and pairs well with wooden accents. Two-tone upholstery draws the eye and metal accents provide a subtle pop.

The air purifier on the dash sticks out like a sore thumb, but its easy to get used to. Also, my favorite part about the interior is the massive panoramic sunroof that provides beautiful views of nature.

You can access up to 25.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and up to 69 cubes overall. The doors and tailgate open wide for easy access. Plus, the low liftover height is great for loading bulky, heavy items. It can tow up to 3,500 lbs.

The 2025 Volvo V90 starts at $59,800, but it’s impressive with plenty of power, comfort, and passenger space. It’s fun to drive without any drama and comes with a long list of standard features.
