The 2022 Ford F-250 is a massive pickup truck that is designed to do serious hauling and carrying. Thanks to its size, it competes with relatively few other pickup trucks. Yet there is one area in particular that the F-250 falls behind others in its class, and that’s noise. While the 2022 F-250 is ranked third out of seven Consumer Reports-rated pickup trucks, it comes in last as far as noise goes. What gives?

The 2022 Ford F-250 is loud

The 2022 Ford F-250 has the worst rating for noise, according to Consumer Reports. It scores a 3/5, which doesn’t sound bad until you consider that the six other trucks rated by Consumer Reports ranked higher than it. These include the 2022 Ram 1500, the 2022 Ford F-150, the 2022 Nissan Titan, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, and the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, as well as the 2022 Ram 1500 Classic.

To determine the noise rating, Consumer Reports testers use their “expert judgment of the vehicle’s interior noise level in everyday driving.” So while a 3/5 isn’t really that bad, if you’re annoyed by little noises in your everyday driving, then you might want to look at a truck other than the 2022 Ford F-250.

Is the Ford F-250 reliable?

The 2022 Ford F-250 gets a 3/5 for its predicted reliability from Consumer Reports. “Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead.” This mediocre score comes after one good year with six so-so to poor years before it.

While the 2021 Ford F-250 gets a 4/5 for reliability, the 2020, 2019, 2017, and 2015 Ford F-250s each get just a 3/5. Even worse, the 2018 has a reliability rating of 1/5. The 2016 F-250 model doesn’t fare much better, at a 2/5. This tells us that while the 2021 Ford F-250 seems to be holding up relatively well right now, it may not always maintain its reliability. The same can be expected for the 2022 model year.

Overall, people are happy with the F-250

Another way that Consumer Reports measures a vehicle is by tallying its owner satisfaction score. To find this, Consumer Reports sends a survey to current owners of a vehicle and asks them to rate several categories. From these surveys, Consumer Reports gives the 2022 Ford F-250 a very good predicted owner satisfaction score of 4/5.

Current owners of the Ford F-250 are happy with its driving experience, giving it 82/100. They also like its styling, awarding it 84/100. Comfort is pretty good at 74/100 and value is a just-okay 42/100. It seems that despite the F-250’s noise, people love this pickup truck anyway.

So should you buy the 2022 Ford F-250 despite its ‘eh’ noise and mediocre reliability rating? That depends on how much a little background noise will bother you and how high your risk tolerance is. If you won’t even notice a little rattling here and there and you have a nice savings account to deal with unexpected problems, you might be like the 74% of people who would buy the Ford F-250 again, no matter what problems it comes with.
