Police in the US carry out around 50,000 traffic stops per day. That’s a whole lot of “Sir, do you have any idea how fast you were going?” In all seriousness, traffic stops sometimes spin way out of control when illegal weapons, drugs, or drunk driving are in the mix. Even more infrequently, police will stop a celebrity and bust them for something illegal, like the case of Philadelphia rapper Matt Ox.

Burbank police arrested Philadelphia rapper Matt Ox for alleged possession of drugs after searching the car at a traffic stop

Police in Burbank, California, stopped a black Lexus at around 4:30 a.m. The reason for the traffic stop? Authorities say they pulled the luxury vehicle over for “vehicle code violations.” However, that was only the beginning of the issues for the Lexus’s passengers, including young Philadelphia rapper Matt Ox.

Matt Ox, 20, rose to rap prominence at a young age. The rapper, whose license would likely read Matthew Grau, was grabbing the attention of the community as young as 12, per HypeFresh. Now, just eight years later, the young Philadelphia rapper is in hot water for the drug-related charges.

According to authorities in Burbank, Matt Ox was one of three occupants in the black Lexus. He was seated in the backseat when police stopped the vehicle. Police must’ve found probable cause to search the vehicle, because they inspected the contents of the ride. During the search, police found “several cups” containing oxycodone, Xanax, and a cocktail of promethazine-codeine, also known as “Lean.”

Police arrested Matt Ox and the other two occupants for misdemeanor drug charges. Although he doesn’t seem too concerned. Instead, he posted his mugshot on social media with a caption reading “F*** THE SYSTEM! FREE THE KIDS! NEW MUSIC SOON! LOCKED ME UP FOR NUN IM BACK THO!”

Now, oxycodone is a Schedule II substance, and the courts take its misuse seriously. “A criminal penalty associated with Schedule II drugs will still be quite hefty,” said the law offices of Liberty Law on the subject of Philadelphia narcotics charges. As for the Lean and the Xanax, those are Schedule IV drugs. They’re less addictive, but still cause for police attention. Unfortunately for Matt Ox, his potential punishment could include jail time and fines.
