2 Mazda SUVs Simply Can’t Keep Up
The numbers are in! Many vehicles indeed in 2025 with positive sales. However, two Mazda SUVs aren’t feeling too hot. These compact models face steep declines, falling behind rivals with larger options in the vast lineup.
Two Mazda SUVS struggle against declining sales
While many vehicles celebrate significant growth in 2025, two Mazda SUVs are feeling left out. They struggle against sharp sales declines despite being athletic and comfortable.
First up is the Mazda3, the smallest model in the lineup. Overall, it ended 2025 with 29,266 sales, which is a 25% sales decline compared to 2024. The sedan dropped by 19% while the hatchback fared worse with a 35% sales decrease.
Then the slightly larger Mazda CX-30 also took a massive hit. It sold 56,684 models in 2025 for a year-over-year sales decrease in 2025. According to Good Car Bad Car, it moved 96,515 models in 2024.
Meanwhile, the CX-5 ended 2025 with about 124,932 sales, and the more rugged CX-50 celebrates ending the year with 99,562 sales. It has a year-over-year sales increase of 35.7%.
The smaller Mazda SUVs might be struggling as they feel a bit dated. The Mazda3 and CX-30 were both redesigned in 2019. However, at least the CX-30 is expected to launch a new generation in 2026.
I’ve reviewed both SUVs and didn’t find much to complain about. At 5’1”, they both have plenty of passenger space in the rear for me. They may feel tight for taller adults, though.
The only issues that really stand out are related to older tech. For example, connecting to Apple CarPlay isn’t the most straightforward process, and the camera resolutions could be improved. Otherwise, they’re refreshingly simple and easy.
