Uh oh, Ford isn’t representing very well at the start of the year. It only has one model on the list of the best SUVs for 2026. At least Toyota has two top-ranked models. As the Ford Escape gets dropped, the automaker has improvements to make. 

One Ford model is on the list of the best SUVs for 2026

Say congratulations to the 2026 Ford Explorer. It’s the only model in the lineup that critics at Edmunds put on the list of the best SUVs for 2026. Meanwhile, four Hyundai models are dominating. 

As the Explorer gets praise, options like the Bronco, Bronco Sport, Explorer, and electric Mustang Mach-E are falling behind. Also, the Ford Escape was recently discontinued, so Ford could focus on these other models. 

The 2026 Ford Expedition has an MSRP of $62,400. Then the $2,595 destination fee increases the starting price to $64,995. It’s a massive family hauler with a lot to consider. 

Critics enjoy this beast for its powerful engine. The Expedition has a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine with 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. The high output variant delivers 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Plus, it can tow up to 10,000 lbs. 

The Expedition provides 22.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and up to 100 cubes overall. Most importantly, it’s more comfortable than rivals such as the Chevrolet Suburban. 

However, it only gets an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and up to 24 mpg on the highway. Critics mention that the steering wheel is a funky shape, but I think it’s fine. It’s more of an oval than a circle.
