Sure, interest in EVs is declining. Many automakers like Ford and Honda have canceled plans to build three-row electric SUVs. But not every company is folding. That’s why the electric Toyota Land Cruiser will be built in America.

The electric Toyota Land Cruiser is being made in America

According to a report by NIKKEI, Toyota is making a few different movies to build new electric SUVs and hybrid vehicles in America to skirt around tariffs.

Two Lexus plants in the United States will be consolidated into one. Lexus SUVs are currently built in Indiana, while cars are made in Kentucky. Now the sedans and SUVs will be built in Indiana, leaving the plant in Kentucky free for new models.

Some Lexus production is moving to Canada, but these models are most likely going to target the Japanese market.

One of these models is expected to be the electric Toyota Land Cruiser, as the automaker has been teasing drivers about it since 2023. Toyota confirmed that two different three-row electric SUVs will be added in Kentucky.

An anonymous source claims that these models will be based on the Land Cruiser and RAV4. Plus, this may indicate that the Toyota RAV4 EV is in the pipeline. However, a RAV4 with a third row is difficult to imagine.

I also wonder where Toyota intends to build its upcoming compact truck that will tackle the Ford Maverick. Most fans probably want the new tiny truck to be a hybrid instead of fully electric.

However, Ford and Slate are both building small and affordable electric trucks, so maybe Toyota is trying to keep up with rivals.
