Police report Jamarion Jackson (22) was driving his Hyundai Genesis along I-95 when he made a series of decisions that make you wonder, What was he thinking?

First and foremost, Jackson was speeding. And not on the highway. He was racing along the breakdown lane. At 11:30 AM on a Thursday morning.

Just veering into the breakdown lane is a risky maneuver. You have no room to maneuver. And at any point you might drive over debris that can blow your tires or wreck your car. So speeding through the breakdown lane is the vehicular equivalent of Russian roulette.

Virginia State Police weren’t having it. They turned n their sirens, fired up their lights, and tried to stop Jamarion Jackson. He sped up.

That’s when Jackson lost control, bouncing off traffic and striking three vehicles. His Hyundai was in no condition to continue fleeing the police. So Jackson jumped out and started to run.

Jamarion Jackson tried to flee on foot, steal another car

Police would later find he’d forgotten his Glock handgun inside his Genesis. But that didn’t stop Jamarion Jackson. He pounded on the window of the nearest car and demanded the drier open the door. His weaponless carjacking attempt failed when the driver just sped away. But Jackson tried the same thing again. And again, the second drive just sped away.

Finally, Jackson found a car waiting in traffic with its passenger-side window cracked open. He decided this was his opportunity. He leapt at the car, trying to wriggle through the open window.

Jackson should have first asked himself, What would I do if someone announced they were carjacking me and tried to jump through my window? Why? Because the driver’s response was relatively predictable. While Jackson struggled to get into the car, the driver turned and floored it. The result was also predictable.

As the car sped away, Jackson fell out and was run over. Police caught up with him in time to save his life, transporting him to the hospital with a collapsed lung, broken neck, and broken back.

Police searched Jackson’s car and found marijuana, other narcotics, the aforementioned Glock, and an illegal kit to convert it into an automatic weapon. No word yet whether this Jamarion Jackson is the same man charged with drawing a handgun during a fistfight in the Potomac Mills mall and shooting his opponent in the leg when he was a teenager. But either way, it seems he just can’t get out of his own way.
