One of the fastest EVs ever built—faster than a Ferrari 488 around Laguna Seca—now sells for less than the average new F-150. Porsche’s Taycan went from record-setting hypercar to used-lot bargain in five years. And prices may have yet to hit bottom.

The electric Porsche Taycan broke the Laguna Seca racetrack’s lap record for an EV. But that’s not all. It came within a blink of the overall production car record, set by the $2 million McLaren Senna limited edition. While the Tesla Model S Plaid can accelerate in a straight line, the Porsche can corner, brake, and perform well even as its battery runs down. The Taycan Turbo GT trim that set that record cost $231,995. I wrote that Posche now offers hypercar performance at a supercar budget. But prices have fallen much further.

When the bottom end of the used Porsche Taycan market dipped below $70,000, I wrote that the fastest-depreciating Porsche is the fastest around the track. One Redditor even called used Taycan prices the “deal of the century.” And they’re not too far off. Why? Other Porsche sports car models simply don’t depreciate. Some even resell used for more than the MSRP.

A used Taycan must be close to a deal of the century. I’ll buy one, my first Porsche, when my car lease expires in a year. It’s essentially an electric 911, way more rear space, petrol-free, more future-proof. Ok, it doesn’t have that 911 silhouette, grunt, or history, but at half the price? Crazy.

Why used EV prices fell off a cliff

We’re experiencing a perfect storm driving down used EV prices. Tesla’s been undercutting competitors and flooding the market with Model 3s. Now they’re hitting the used market. But the first round of drivers who wanted an EV took advantage of tax incentives and bought a new one. The Taycan is just one example of how fast used EV prices are falling.

In November 2024, the absolute cheapest Porsche Taycan was $70,000. Now, in late October 2025, the average used Taycan transaction price YTD is $70,000.

When I searched the country for cheap Taycans, I found multiple used examples, with as few as 50,000 miles, listed by dealerships for under $40,000. These aren’t salvage-title private sales. These are legit used cars. And the prices might be about to fall even lower. The Porsche Taycan offers hypercar performance at pickup truck prices.

Porsche just released a redesigned Taycan. It’s more powerful (up to 1,000 horsepower) and its battery packs more kWh at a lower weight. But as importantly for resale value, it has a redesigned front end. Porsche deleted some of the car’s more futuristic design cues and settled on a more classic 911 style. I expect the second-gen Taycan to be much more desirable on the used car market, and first-gen prices to stay at rock bottom.
