Turo rental SUV leaves North Carolina man with $800 towing bill
Sometimes drivers get tired of the same old rental SUVs. Basic trim levels of the options, like the Kia Soul or Nissan Altima, aren’t the most exciting for trips. So you could get a cooler option from Turo. However, one man faced a few problems with the service and got left with an $800 tow truck bill.

You can describe Turo as the Uber or Lyft for rental cars. Instead of going to a rental company and getting stuck with something boring to drive, you can pick something unique.
For example, there are Tesla Cybertruck models, BMW convertibles, Porsche coupes, and other luxury options. This allows people who need something to drive the opportunity to pick something exotic and adventurous.
However, a man from Charlotte, North Carolina, got a rental SUV from Turo to drive to Raleigh for a business trip. It’s about a two and a half hour drive.
According to WSOC TV, he made it to Raleigh, but suddenly broke down in traffic. Everything shut down, including the power steering. Then he managed to make it across four lanes of traffic to an exit ramp.
He was stranded by a towing business and got an interesting idea. He asked to ride with the tow truck driver back to Charlotte for $100 to get himself and the rental SUV home.
Reportedly, Turo agreed to reimburse him, but only gave him $400 and disappeared. He didn’t hear from them for weeks until the Action 9 team reached out to the company on his behalf.
The company cited a PayPal issue and reimbursed him. But now he knows not to help out next time. The moral of the story is to let the rental company handle breakdowns.
