Civilians and police officers are lucky to be alive in North Carolina. A truck driver robbed a bank, claimed to have C4 explosives, and started a gun fight. But his semi-truck didn’t make for an inconspicuous getaway vehicle.

North Carolina man robs a bank with explosives and fires at police

A North Carolina truck driver decided it was time for a career change. So he decided to try his luck as a bank robber. He entered a First Citizens Bank in Zebulon and claimed to have C4 explosives.

After getting $3,234 from the teller, he fled the scene in a semi-truck. Rocky Mount Police officers spotted McGee in a parking lot, where surveillance cameras captured him exiting the truck with a gun.

He fired at police officers with a Ruger AR-5.56 rifle, and officers returned fire, striking him. His current condition is unknown. No civilians or officers were injured, and two guns were recovered from the scene.

According to 13 News Now, FBI and NC State Bureau bomb technicians secured the scene. Investigators didn’t find any explosives. Items used during the robbery were recovered from the semi-truck.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche describes the incident as domestic terror. He explains that “McGee threatened innocent civilians with explosives then opened fire on police officers.” Federal charges will be aggressively pursued.

McGee could face up to 20 years in prison for the bank robbery charge and a consecutive minimum of 10 years for discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
