A triangle-shaped UFO was recently filmed flying over Area 51. As if that wasn’t mysterious enough, a scanner monitoring the secretive military base’s unencrypted radio frequencies picked up a very odd transmission.

The UFO was spotted and recorded on camera by videographer Anders Otteson, who runs the Uncanny Expeditions YouTube channel. According to the Daily Mail, Otteson was camping near Area 51 in the Tikaboo Valley of the Nevada desert, on public land near Groom Lake Road, when he saw the strange craft. He said his campsite overlooks the military base’s restricted airspace and front gate area.

After filming what appeared to be a B-2 that he believes originated from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, he spotted another craft in the sky. This one he couldn’t identify.

“Are we looking at a classified test flight or run-of-the-mill training sortie?” Otteson said. “I certainly think we have something interesting here.”

He reported that the flight path was consistent with a low-altitude pass over the area, like other military aircraft. However, its design was not familiar to him. Otteson said the craft’s body had a noticeably flatter trailing edge, no wings, or jagged rear section like a stealth bomber.

Around that same time, a scanner monitoring Area 51’s unencrypted radio frequencies picked up something else he couldn’t explain. The transmission used a series of food- and drink-themed codes. Among the words transmitted were “pretzel snack,” “corona pretzel snacks zero with cheese,” “profile Michelob,” “imperial with garlic,” and “fridge hydrate.”

This is also not the first time that this type of unidentified triangle-shaped aircraft has been spotted. Twice in 2014, photographers captured images of a craft that looked eerily similar and also could not be identified. Those photos were taken by photographer Jeff Templin in Wichita, Kansas, and by photographer Steve Douglas in Amarillo, Texas.

Triangle-shaped UFOs are one of the three most commonly-seen UFOs, along with saucer-shaped and orb-shaped objects. They are just rarely seen over Area 51. According to the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC), there have been 85 reports worldwide of triangle-shaped UFOs since November 2025, including in the UK, Canada, Germany, and Brazil.
