Travis Pastrana and the Gymkhana Film Series Return With a Tricked Out Subaru BRAT
Travis Pastrana and the Hoonigan crew is back with another one-of-a-kind motorsports creation: the all-new Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo. The tricked-out 1978 Subaru BRAT is the third fully bespoke Gymkhana Subaru that Pastrana will have driven.
Unveiled at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas this week, the Brataroo is the next purpose-built Gymkhana car to be featured in the film series created by the late Ken Block. The new Hooingan Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo is a collaboration between Subaru of America and technical partner Vermont SportsCar (VSC).

The Brataroo pushes ‘the limits of modern performance and technology’
The heavily-modified Subaru Bi-Drive Recreational All-Terrain Transporter (BRAT) is the highest-revving Gymkhana car the film series (more than 9,500 RPM) has ever used. Underneath the hood of the Brataroo is a “very pressurized” four-cylinder engine capable of 670 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque. Putting all of that horsepower to the ground is an all-wheel-drive system with a six-speed sequential SADEV gearbox.
A VSC-engineered chassis supports the bodywork made completely of carbon fiber that covers the Brataroo. Outback sunsets inspire the livery on the Hoonigan BRAT with kangaroos flashing Travis Pastrana’s signature thumbs up.
The Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo also unquestionably boasts the most advanced active aerodynamics ever seen on a Gymkhana car. The unique aerodynamics package includes adjustable active front fender louvers and two interchangeable rear wings.

“This BRAT’s completely unhinged – in the best way possible,” said Pastrana. “It’s got the soul of a vintage Subaru with the tech to do things no Gymkhana car has ever done. Every part of it is designed to take abuse, fly big, and come back for more. It’s hands down the craziest Gymkhana car we’ve ever built.”
The BRAT makes its film debut in the next Gymkhana offering called Aussie Shred. The film premieres sometime in early December on the Hoonigan YouTube channel.
