While Americans turn their noses up at electric vehicles, interest in hybrid SUVs has been growing. As most automakers cut their EV plans to focus on building new hybrid models, Toyota is reaping the benefits.

Toyota’s hybrid SUVs already have a significant advantage

As most automakers, such as Jeep, Nissan, and Mazda, work to develop new hybrid SUVs, Toyota is sitting pretty. It can relax as others struggle because it already has a vast lineup of reliable, hybrid models.

For months, Toyota has shared that the transition to electric vehicles felt too rushed. So, it decided to focus on hybrid vehicles instead. Now, data from 2025 proves a rapid increase in hybrid vehicles as EVs struggle.

Drivers want to go hybrid. As they want the CX-5 and Cherokee hybrid to come out eventually, there are multiple Toyota options to choose from.

For example, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid already exists as a model that’s been put to the test. According to iSeeCars, the Highlander Hybrid is the most reliable hybrid SUV. It’s actually in fourth place on the list of vehicles most likely to reach over 250,000 miles.

Plus, other automakers know that Toyota is ahead, so they’re collaborating with the automaker as they catch up. The Mazda CX-50 Hybrid actually uses the same powertrain as the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

While the RAV4 Hybrid ranks well for being a reliable choice, if you need more space, consider the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid or Sequoia.

Also, there’s the affordable compact Corolla Cross Hybrid and the rugged Toyota 4Runner Hybrid. Don’t forget about the Toyota Sienna Hybrid, either.

There are options of all sizes built for different purposes, while competitors like Ford only have one hybrid SUV available.
