Here’s how Toyota drivers can get paid by multiple lawsuits
Toyota Motor Corporation has settled multiple lawsuits with vehicle owners and lessees. As a result, drivers of eight separate models may stand to get paid hundreds of dollars in cash–or more. Here are the Toyotas in question.
- 2012-2015 Toyota Camry XV50
- 2011-2019 Toyota Corolla
- 2011-2013 Toyota Corolla Matrix
- 2012-2018 Toyota Avalon
- 2013-2018 Toyota Avalon HV
- 2012-2019 Toyota Tacoma
- 2012-2017 Toyota Tundra
- 2012-2017 Toyota Sequoia
I previously reported that some Camry cars smelled so bad Toyota is paying owners. According to the plaintiffs, a faulty air conditioning system in 2012-15 Toyota Camry cars could become a breeding ground for mold. The result is a very stinky car, every time you turn on your HVAC.
The automaker agreed to pay each plaintiff up to $100 in expenses and $7,500 for damages. According to the Top Class Actions website, the final total came to “up to $100” for expenses incurred after May 31st 2024. But owners who incurred higher expenses, such as replacing the HVAC system, before May 31st could get awarded more. Toyota has set up a website for claims.
Most of the models on the above list are for a lawsuit tied to a major airbag recall. This is a massive $78.5 million settlement. What’s intriguing is that Toyota is already recalling and replacing the affected airbags. But it looks like drivers can get even more cash, for documented out-of-pocket expenses due to the recall. So perhaps you could have transportation or even a rental car covered while your Toyota has its airbag replaced. The Toyota owners have set up a special page for that claim.
