Texas Car Dealership Named ‘Legit Auto Group’ Under Investigation for Illegally Selling Vehicles
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office seized eight vehicles this week from an unlicensed car dealership in southern Texas. The car lot’s name? Legit Auto Group.
While conducting an online investigation, detectives discovered the dealership was selling automobiles, including sports cars, at unusually low rates. This prompted the local authorities to look into the matter further, according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar.
There doesn’t appear to be very much that is ‘legit’ about the car dealership
On Tuesday, several agencies descended upon Legit Auto Group, towing away vehicles and taking pictures. During a press conference later that day, Sheriff Salazar said dealership had not stolen the vehicles, but that didn’t mean they were “legit.”
“At this point, I don’t know that there’s anything legit about this car dealership.” Salazar said. “I can tell you that the whole thing seems to be improperly done.”
Salazar added that investigators believed many of the vehicles’ owners were improperly transferring them. Further investigation revealed that the authorities found the dealership lacked a license and someone had altered or fabricated several of its documents.
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is
“The common denominator on all these vehicles is that they were sold at very cheap prices, too hard to pass up prices,” Salazar said. “So they (investigators) became suspicious.”
“The way that affects the general public is they are putting the community at risk of purchasing a vehicle that what they think they are getting is not what they are getting,” Salazar said. “And then they are getting stuck with a vehicle they could never title because it was improperly transferred.”
No one made arrests at the time of the car seizures, but that day is probably coming soon, according to Salazar. He said he believes the vehicles are “coming from everywhere.”
“The lowest price isn’t always the best deal,” Sheriff Salazar warned. “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. You may pay a little bit more at the onset [at a reputable dealer], but you know that what you’re getting is a decent car with guarantees in place.”
