Test driving a Toyota Tacoma lands a $240 ticket due to dealership mistakes
When someone is out test-driving trucks, they typically aren’t worried about getting pulled over. But one Texas man got slapped with an expensive ticket while test-driving a Toyota Tacoma due to a dealership mistake.
Test driving the Toyota Tacoma results in a $240 ticket
Daniel Rocha was considering buying a brand new Toyota Tacoma, so of course he took it for a test drive. However, his experience was quickly ruined by seeing police lights in the rearview mirror.
Texas officers spotted the truck and decided to stop it because it didn’t have a license plate. But that’s not Daniel’s fault. The dealership failed to attach a temporary license plate to the Tacoma.
The police officer didn’t give Daniel the time of day and refused to let the issue slide. Reportedly, this isn’t the first time that the dealership has made mistakes.
Daniel is facing a $240 ticket and a court date despite doing nothing wrong. He is caught in the middle of a feud between the police and the Longo Toyota dealership in Prosper, Texas.
Also, the officer who stopped Daniel shared that this is an ongoing problem with local dealerships and they’ve been cracking down on mistakes. Issuing citations to potential customers will make the dealerships abide by this.

A Prosper Police Department spokesperson shared that failure to properly display dealer tags on a test-driven vehicle is a violation of Texas law. Under the law, the vehicle operator is responsible for any citations if the law is violated.
The story gets worse. Daniel was shopping because his son recently lost his life in a fatal accident while driving Daniel’s old truck.
After the lack of help from the dealership, Daniel decided not to purchase the Toyota Tacoma. Now he’s had to suffer even longer without a car.
Meanwhile, the dealership claims that safety is our top priority and it’s dedicated to the well-being of guests and the community it serves. If this was true, it would actually help Daniel.
