Georgia teen flips stolen SUV in high-speed chase

Police officers received reports of a stolen SUV in Fayette County, Georgia. Upon spotting the vehicle, an officer took action. As the officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, the driver fled.

The sheriff’s office shares, “The vehicle refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued. The chase reached speeds of over 115 miles per hour, creating extremely dangerous conditions given the time of day and road conditions.”

It was about 2:45 in the afternoon when the incident occurred. Georgia is one of the many states still recovering after a massive winter storm. The pursuit ended when the vehicle rolled over near Brooks Woolsey Road and the Highway 85 connectors.

According to CBS News, the driver is 17-year-old Taylor Simpson. He was reported missing to the Newnan Police Department.

Luckily, no one is suffering from major injuries. Road closures took its toll on the area as an investigation took place and clean up operations occurred.

Simpson faces multiple charges for stop sign violation, speeding, reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, driving without a license, giving a false name to an officer, and more.

You can view footage of the red vehicle fleeing from police cars here. The incident was recorded on an officer’s dash camera. While the roads look mostly clear, there are spots that look pretty slick. There may have been black ice on the pavement.
