Stellantis adds 225k Jeep, Dodge, and Ram models to Takata airbag recall
Pay attention for your safety! Stellantis issues a ‘do not drive’ warning to about 225,000 vehicles still equipped with deadly Takata airbags. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), owners shouldn’t drive the vehicles at risk until the defective airbags are replaced.
The following vehicles are at risk:
- 2002-2016 Dodge Ram trucks/Sprinter vans
- 2004-2009 Dodge Durango SUVs
- 2005-2011 Dodge Dakota trucks
- 2005-2008 Dodge Magnum cars
- 2006-2015 Dodge Charger cars
- 2007-2009 Chrysler Aspen vans
- 2008-2014 Dodge Challenger cars
- 2005-2015 Chrysler 300 cars

Visit a local dealership to have the airbag replaced free of charge. So far, 28 people have been killed by the exploding airbags, and about 400 people have been injured.
The chemical propellant inside the airbag inflators degrades over time, especially in hot and humid conditions. This increases the risk of the airbag rupturing during deployment, sending metal fragments through the cabin.
Even minor accidents cause the airbags to explode and may lead to death or life-altering injuries. Stellantis began notifying owners at risk on February 9th. You can use the NHTSA VIN lookup tool to see if your car is at risk.
Over 67 million Takata airbags have been recalled in tens of millions of vehicles in the United States. Stellantis has replaced over 6.6 million during the past 10 years. But the automaker still has a lot of work to do.
