Do American-made SUVs have the best value? Well, they don’t in terms of resale value, at least. So, what brand is best? Is it a brand from Korea or Japan? Do European brands have skin in the game? Let’s find out.

What SUV brand has the best resale value?

Drum roll, please! The SUV brand with the best resale value is Toyota. This Japanese brand has won for the eighth consecutive time. It crushes other Japanese brands such as Subaru and Honda.

According to Kelley Blue Book, an average new vehicle will be worth about 44.6 of its original sticker value after five years of ownership. The top-ranking vehicles should return about 58%.

A broad mix of hybrid, PHEV, and gas-powered models takes top honors. For example, the Toyota 4Runner rings in with a resale value of 60.0%. This tracks, as this rugged beast has an excellent reputation for reliability.

But the Ford Bronco is another off-roader with a solid resale value. It represents the American brand with 57%. The Honda CR-V drops a little behind at 54.4. What’s interesting is that the CR-V ranks ahead of its top rival, the RAV4, which earns 53.9%.

The Toyota Grand Highlander lands on the list with 51.3%, and the massive Sequoia retains about 45.8% of its value. Also, the Toyota Sienna maintains 47.3.

When it comes to hybrid and electric vehicles, the RAV4 PHEV is the highest ranking option. It keeps about 54.0% of its value after 60 months of ownership.

Lexus is the only other brand with multiple SUVs that rank for having the best resale values. However, it’s the luxury division of Toyota.
