Chicago Man Driving Stolen BMW Runs Red Light, Smashes Into Police Car
You’ve heard the phrase: “Drive it like you stole it.” Great figure of speech. Not great life advice. A Chicago man might not be in jail right now if he’d been able to keep his stolen BMW between the lines.
The Illinois State Police reports 29-year-old Demarko Hill was speeding down a Chicago street at 12:18 a.m. on a Tuesday night when he ran a red light. His white BMW T-boned a black Chrysler crossing the intersection. But that’s not all. The two cars spun out and slammed into the front of an Illinois state police squad car waiting for the red light.
Hill decided it was time to beat feet, and as Chicago police arrived, he tried to flee the scene. But that didn’t go well, and he was taken into custody.
Police found he was carrying a loaded firearm. What’s more, the white BMW had been reported stolen. Both Hill and the state trooper went to a nearby hospital but only had minor injuries. Hill’s next stop: Cook County Jail, where he’s waiting for his initial court appearance.
The police aren’t messing around with him, and Hill’s charges are plentiful. They include: aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a weapon with a revoked FOID card, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, forged registration, leaving the scene of a crash, unlawful possession of cannabis, and multiple traffic offenses.
