A routine shift at a Ram truck plant didn’t go as planned. Stellantis employees were quickly evacuated as an employee entered the facility with a gun. Multiple SWAT teams were called in to safely remove the man from the premises.

An armed Stellantis employee was arrested at Ram truck plant

Only a limited number of workers, or the skeleton crew, were onsite at the Sterling Heights Assembly plant when an employee entered the facility with a gun. This plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan, is where Stellantis builds the Ram 1500

Because the incident occurred on Saturday, the plant was closed instead of cranking out trucks at full operation. As police officers arrived, the truck plant workers were safely evacuated from the massive, 5-million-square-foot facility.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the gunman barricaded himself inside and seemed to be experiencing a mental health crisis. Multiple SWAT teams were called in, and a standoff took place for three hours.

The man peacefully came out and was taken into custody without incident. Police officers shared that the man is a Stellantis employee, and he was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Officers are waiting for information from the man’s medical evaluation before they will determine how to proceed.Luckily, no one was injured, but the motive behind the incident is unclear.

Also, many rumors suggest that the man fired the gun multiple times inside the Ram truck plant. Stallentis has shared that this information is false, and no shots were fired. Employees will be offered counseling once production resumes.
