California man taunts officers in stolen police truck
Police officers in Long Beach, California, were conducting parking enforcement in the 800 block of 12th street when their morning suddenly turned to chaos.
A man ran up and jumped into a police truck, then sped off. Then a police chase ensued as officers jumped in the remaining squad cars.
One officer radioed to dispatch that someone just stole his black-and-white inceptor. He shared that it was westbound on 12th and out of sight. Also, he noted that no weapons were in the vehicle.
Then the suspect got on the radio. He said, “I’ll tell you who has the car, I do!” Next, he shared that something was wrong with his family and that he was going home. He claimed that he was removing the GPS system to get home.
But the stolen truck was spotted by a police helicopter, and the chase continued. According to the OC Register, the suspect finally acknowledged that officers were behind him.
One deputy said that if the suspect pulled over, he would help him get home. This talked the driver into pulling over to surrender. He was safely arrested.
It’s unclear if he made it home or not. Also, there are no reports of the suspect operating under the influence. But going to jail might make his family’s problem worse.
