[Video] California Man Steals Mack Dump Truck, Flips It During Police Chase
Vinesh Pal didn’t steal a dump truck because he was on the run. Police say he appears to have taken the big rig for the heck of it. He only used it to flee once officers caught on. The low-speed chase did not end the way he hoped.
According to police in Roseville, California, someone reported a missing Mack dump truck.
Officers spotted the commercial vehicle near Angus Road around 4 p.m. They signaled the driver to pull over. But no dice. The driver took off.
The 38-year-old Pal turned onto Fiddyment Road, floored it, and accelerated onto Interstate 5.
Video shows the suspect weaving between lanes. He narrowly avoided other vehicles several times. He was headed straight toward Sacramento.
About 40 minutes later, the dump truck merged onto eastbound Highway 50. At that point, the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit.
Chase ends in construction zone rollover
Just after 4:45 p.m., the driver steered into lanes closed for construction. Inside the work zone, he finally lost control. The truck crashed and rolled onto its side. He’d covered about 23 miles since Roseville PD first spotted him.
Officers arrested Pal at the scene. Video shows him walking away in handcuffs. Police say he was not injured.
Authorities shut down two lanes of rush-hour traffic while crews cleared the crash. They reopened the roadway before 7 p.m.
Police booked Pal into the South Placer Jail. Charges include felony evasion, possession of a stolen vehicle, and driving against the flow of traffic. You can see helicopter footage of the chase embedded below:
